The latest update 2014.14.5 brings Tesla some exciting new functions to your vehicle. In addition to the new user interface, the Tesla Vision Park Assist for vehicles with ultrasonic sensors has been added, according to the news website "notateslaapp". This now gives you a high-resolution 3D representation of your vehicle's surroundings, showing you the proximity and shape of objects, barriers, other vehicles and painted road markings in the immediate vicinity.
Note: This function will be added to your vehicle with the latest update 2014.14.5 if it is equipped with ultrasonic sensors (USS) and AMD processors (MCU 3). Under the menu item Autopilot > Park Assist > Tesla Vision you will find a new option to either continue measuring distances with ultrasonic sensors or to use the new High-Fidelity with the 3D assistant.
Interestingly, since the introduction of the new parking assistant, there has been speculation about how Tesla will deal with it in the future. It has been discussed several times that Tesla the sensors could simply be switched off. This does not seem to be the case now, but Tesla allows owners of vehicles with ultrasonic sensors to choose which function they want to use.
