Tesla Model Y is the most frequently registered vehicle Europe in Q1 2023!

According to the market research company Jato, the Tesla was Model Y was the most frequently registered new car in 27 European markets in March and Q1 2023. Compared to the same quarter last year, when it ranked 31st, the model saw a 173 percent increase and came out on top. This success is due to an increase in production and fewer problems in the supply chain.

Jato analyst Felipe Munoz predicts that the Model Y will be among the top five best-selling cars in Europe by the end of the year. However, this success has come at the expense of the Model 3, which saw a decline in new registrations. The five most popular electric cars according to the Model Y in the first quarter were the Tesla Model 3, the VW ID.3 and ID.4, and the Dacia Spring.

European new registrations rose 26 percent to 1,414,815 units in March 2023 and 17 percent to 3,220,806 units in the first quarter. According to Munoz, the increase in registrations is largely due to backlogged orders from previous months that could not be delivered due to component shortages.

Pure battery-powered cars were one of the drivers of growth: more than half of new registrations in the first quarter of 2023 were BEVs, with volume rising 43 percent in March to more than 219,000 vehicles. Tesla vehicles accounted for 28 percent of all BEV registrations in March this year, and 22 percent in the first quarter. Volkswagen Group was 2400 units behind Tesla in the Q1 2023 BEV ranking.
