Tesla Model YIs the horn really too quiet?

Tesla Horn barely audible? That's what's behind it!

Tesla is known for its futuristic design and innovative technology - but the horn in the Model Y causes some drivers to frown. Too quiet, not assertive, barely audible in the rain? A real safety risk or just a subjective perception?

We took a closer look at the problem and show you, what the reasons may be Tesla can be saved here and what you can do if your Model Y goes under acoustically. 👀

Why is the Tesla-horn (sometimes) so quiet?

1️⃣ "Joe Mode" - Tesla's secret quiet mode? 🤫

Before you start your Model Y disassemble it, first check the settings on the touchscreen:

📌 "Joe Mode" active? This mode reduces some vehicle noises, but could also affect the volume of the horn.

Solution:

  • Menu → Vehicle → Safety → Deactivate "Joe Mode"
  • Then test whether the horn is now louder.

If this does not help, it could be due to the hardware...

2️⃣ Tesla has changed the horn - and not necessarily for the better 🤨

🔍 2022 has Tesla replaced the classic horn with a loudspeakerwhich simulates the sound of the horn.

🚨 Possible consequences:
No more real mechanical honking - but a digitally simulated sound.
Possibly quieter than conventional horns - this can be problematic, especially in road traffic.
Depending on power supply & software - if Tesla is improved here, an update could help.

💡 Is this the future? In Europe, e-cars are equipped with external loudspeakers for pedestrian protection anyway. Tesla seems to be taking this route in advance.

But there is another potential problem...

3️⃣ Rain as the enemy of Tesla-horn? 🌧️

Several Model Y drivers report:
"After heavy rain or visits to car washes, the horn is suddenly much quieter!"

👉 Theory: The new speaker for the horn noise is possibly susceptible to water - which leads to a temporary or permanent reduction in volume.

What can you do?

  • Test it: Does the horn work normally again after the car has dried?
  • Tesla Contact service: If your horn remains permanently quieter after exposure to water, this could be due to a defect or design fault.

🚨 If this turns out to be a real problem Tesla might be forced to launch a recall campaign.

What can you do if your Tesla-horn is too quiet?

🔧 Checklist for troubleshooting:

1. deactivate "Joe Mode and test.
2. rain test: If the horn becomes quieter when wet, check whether it works normally again after drying.
3. loudspeaker instead of horn? If your Model Y from 2022 it could be due to the new sound technology.
4. Tesla Contact supportif the problem persists.

Conclusion: Save Tesla & Co. now also on the horn?

Tesla is ahead in many areas - but A horn that is too quiet can quickly become a problem in traffic.

👉 The biggest question: Is the quieter horn a deliberate feature or simply a design flaw?

💡 Our opinion:
🚘 If the horn really does get quieter in the rain, it could be Tesla could have a design problem here.
🔊 If it is due to the new loudspeaker technology, a software update could help.
⚠️ If Tesla has a general problem with horns that are too quiet, an official solution would be necessary - perhaps even a replacement.
