What is the GHG quota and how does it work?
The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Quota (GHG Quota) is a government initiative that rewards owners of electric vehicles by giving them CO2 credits. These credits can be awarded to companies such as Tesla who in turn use them to improve their own carbon footprint.
For the year 2025 Tesla the opportunity to GHG quota in exchange for 1,500 free Supercharger kilometers in exchange. These kilometers are valid for 12 months and can be flexibly transferred to any Tesla-vehicle in your account. The only requirement is that your vehicle must be registered in Germany.
Step-by-step: How to secure your Supercharger kilometers
- Fill out the registration form: Submit your application via the Tesla-website.
- Wait for approval: Tesla submits the application to the Federal Environment Agency (UBA), which usually takes a few weeks.
- Get kilometers credited: After approval, the 1,500 kilometers are credited to your Tesla-account.
Note: The entire process from application to crediting can take up to four months. The Supercharger kilometers are granted on a user account basis and can be used for multiple vehicles.
What happens if you change your mind?
If you decide not to take part in the program, you have 14 days to cancel your registration. To do so, send an e-mail to GermanCO2Credits@Tesla.com with your chassis number (VIN). Tesla also offers the option of waiving the withdrawal period so that the credits can be credited more quickly.
