Tesla improves access to third-party fast charging stations and selects for reliability!

At the beginning, it was only possible to display Tesla's own Superchargers in the Tesla navigation system. About two years ago, the displayed Tesla Superchargers were supplemented by additional third-party fast-charging stations. This simplified navigation to non-Tesla charging stations immensely. But unfortunately, it happened again and again that fast charging stations were also missing or not reliable charging stations were displayed. With a new update, Tesla wants to address exactly this issue. Gradually, Tesla wants to expand and fine-tune the selection of fast charging stations from third-party providers. Reliable charging stations that are more frequently used by Tesla vehicles will be added and unreliable fast charging stations will be banned from the navigation system.

This update caught the eye of the first Tesla owners in Europe last week. Shortly thereafter, Tesla published a support post about it. According to this, starting in Europe and Israel, fast charging stations from third-party providers will automatically be included in the navigation if they meet certain standards. The goal is to provide Tesla drivers with a smooth charging experience. The following criteria must be met, quote Tesla:

Third-party fast charging stations that meet our performance and reliability standards will automatically be included in the Tesla navigation system as qualified third-party charging stations. The goal is to provide Tesla drivers with a seamless charging experience. The following standards will initially be rolled out in Europe and Israel.

Requirements for qualified charging stations

In order for a charging station to be included in the Tesla navigation system, the following conditions must be met over a 60-day period:

  1. At least one compatible charging port
  2. Used regularly by Tesla drivers at least once every four days
  3. The average success rate for charging is at least 90%

In order to quickly identify unusable charging stations and provide our customers with an optimal usage experience, stations will be removed from the Tesla navigation system once any of the following conditions are met over a 14-day period:

  1. No charging sessions are detected
  2. Average charging success rate drops below 70%

The requirements to become or remain a qualified third-party charging station are subject to change.Third-party fast charging stations that meet our performance and reliability standards are automatically included in the Tesla navigation system as qualified third-party charging stations.
