Tesla has finally released Full Self-Driving (FSD) for the Cybertruck. With the 2024.32.20 software update, FSD was initially Tesla-employees and early access testers. This is the first time that the Cybertruck has been equipped with FSD functions.
FSD comes to the Cybertruck
Since the launch of the Cybertruck, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) have not been available. Owners had to drive manually and could only use Traffic-Aware Cruise Control (TACC). However, TACC in the Cybertruck Foundation Series has traffic controls that slow or stop the vehicle at stop signs, red lights and crosswalks.
Details of the 2024.32.20 update
The latest update gives employees and early access testers access to FSD on the Cybertruck. One employee confirmed that his vehicle now has FSD enabled and is running on version 2024.32.20. The release notes are watermarked because Tesla is taking increased action against leaks.
The update also includes support for sunglasses with attention monitoring, a feature introduced in FSD 12.5.4. There is also a brand new end-to-end system for driving on highways.
Outlook for customers
FSD for the Cybertruck is expected to be available to other customers soon, as it is now being distributed to a wider group of Early Access vehicles. Tesla however, added a note in the release notes that could indicate a longer wait:
"Note: This is an Early Access release. You and anyone you authorize must exercise extra caution and remain alert. It does not make your vehicle autonomous. Do not become careless."
The hope is that it won't take more than a week or two for other Foundation Series owners of the Cybertruck to receive the update. The Cybertruck's update frequency has been faster than Tesla's usual updates, so the wait shouldn't be too long.
Since this build is now based on update 2024.32, it is expected that the next FSD update for all vehicles will also be based on 2024.32 and introduce the new features for everyone on the FSD track.
