Billionaire complains about Tesla-Service - Is there more to it?

John Caudwell is annoyed about his Model X - but is the problem really Tesla?

Tesla is always making headlines - usually with innovative products, but sometimes also with customer experiences that make big waves in the media. Currently, the British entrepreneur John Caudwellfounder of Phones4U, is currently making headlines with a critical article about his Tesla Model X for discussions. But how much truth is behind his disappointment?

The case: Model X fails after warranty expires - coincidence or bad luck?

Caudwell reported on X (formerly Twitter) and LinkedIn that his Tesla Model X exactly on day of the warranty expiry suddenly stopped working. His main annoyance: The customer service ran via the Tesla-appso he had no personal contact. His driver had to go to a Tesla drive to a service centerwhere a appointment in three weeks was offered.

📌 The facts:

  • The problem: The Model X's 12-volt battery was flat.
  • Tesla-Customer service: Appointment was offered in three weeks.
  • Solution: Caudwell charged the battery himself - the car drove again.

But this begs the question: Couldn't the same problem have happened with a different car?

Is the 12V battery really a Tesla-specific problem?

🔍 What many people don't know:

  • All cars - whether electric or combustion - have a 12V battery.
  • These batteries discharge over timeespecially if a vehicle is parked for a longer period of time or if a deep discharge occurs due to other faults.
  • The replacement of the 12V battery is a normal maintenance measurewhich must be paid for by the customer for almost all makes of carwhen the warranty has expired.

Caudwell was annoyed that he had to solve the problem himself - but the but he recharged the battery and his Tesla worked perfectly. So it really was Tesla to blame - or just bad luck?

Tesla-Customer service - Really that bad?

Tesla wraps many service requests digitally via the app This approach may take some customers some getting used to. At the same time, the service is being expanded worldwidewhich is linked to the increasing number of Tesla-vehicles is necessary.

💡 Important points:
Tesla is continuously expanding its service networkbut the rapid growth in the number of vehicles poses a challenge.
Many workshops are overloaded - a problem that also affects other car brands.
The Tesla-app enables quick fault analysis & mobile service callswithout the customer having to go directly to the workshop.

In Germany, there have recently been reports of long waiting times in Hamburgbut here too Tesla is working on expanding the service team.

Power Tesla really do too little for its customers?

John Caudwell criticized that Tesla must improve in order to survive. But is that really the case?

📌 Tesla remains the market leader in e-mobility:
🚗 Tesla Model Y is the world's best-selling car - and not only among electric cars!
🔋 Innovations such as the new 4680 batteries, Supercharger V4 & new software updates show that Tesla is constantly working on improvements.
🌍 Growing with global expansion & new factories Tesla continues to grow - also in Europe.

One thing is clear: No manufacturer is perfect. But Tesla with over-the-air updates, app-supported service and rapid innovations, offers a completely new approach in the automotive industry.

Conclusion: genuine criticism or just bad luck?

It is understandable that customers are annoyed when problems occur immediately after the warranty has expired - but this happens with all car brands.

🔥 Our assessment:

  • Tesla is not perfectbut the company is developing rapidly.
  • There are service challengesbut they are not Tesla-exclusive.
  • The 12V battery problem is not Tesla-problem, but affects almost all modern vehicles.
  • Tesla is continuously improvingand with the new models, superchargers & software updates, the driving experience is getting better and better.

👉 Tesla will continue to work on these topics - and still remain the most innovative car brand in the world!
