Tesla Robotaxi expands test phase: Second wave of invitations to US us

Tesla is currently sending a new round of robotaxi invitations to selected community members in the USA. After starting with around 20 handpicked influencers on June 22, the fleet of about ten Model Y is now set to complete significantly more real rides – providing valuable data for the further development of FSD.

Why Tesla is scaling quickly now

Continuous learning: The more different routes, weather conditions, and traffic situations the robotaxis experience, the faster edge cases can be trained.
App and support tests: In addition to the driving experience, Tesla also wants to test its in-house robotaxi app, remote support, and fleet monitoring under load.
Gradual roll-out: Initially, Tesla enthusiasts will continue to be invited – a deliberate, controlled expansion before Tesla owners in Austin and eventually the general public follow.

Next milestones

Local Tesla owners in Austin
– larger, constant ride volume within the existing geozone.
Public beta in Texas
– after regulatory approval and stable performance.
Expansion of the fleet
– more robotaxis, possibly the first wireless charging depot (in planning).

What does this mean for Europe?

For German Tesla drivers, this remains purely informational for now:

Robotaxi tests are currently only taking place in Austin.
Tesla is gathering experiences that will be incorporated into future FSD versions (V13/V14) – also for European vehicles.
An EU launch depends on local regulations; it is not expected in the short term.

Conclusion: The second wave of invitations shows that Tesla is satisfied with the current performance and is now quickly adding data. Although it will still take time before we can get on board here, each additional training in Texas also benefits European FSD users.
