Tesla Model Y best-selling car in the world in Q1 2023!

Tesla Model Y not only in 1st place in European markets, but even worldwide? That's what analysts are now saying after evaluating JATO data for 53 markets worldwide. According to the report, the popular all-electric Tesla Model Y was the world's best-selling car for the first time in the first quarter of 2023. This would not only be another milestone for Tesla, but also for electromobility itself, as no electric vehicle has ever achieved this before.

Jato data for 53 markets worldwide as well as information on key markets and estimates for further markets show that the Tesla Model Y was the best-selling car in the world in the first quarter of this year," explains Jato analyst Felipe Munoz in a guest article for the Motor1 portal.

Data collected by Jato for the first quarter shows that the Model Y U.S. leads the way with 267,200 units sold. That represents an increase of about 69 percent over the same period last year, according to the analysis. Particularly well developed was the Model Y in the core markets of China, the U.S. and Europe, where it was the best-selling vehicle in the first quarter. Behind the electric car Model Y only internal combustion engines follow in the top five spots of best-selling cars in the first quarter of 2023, according to Jato - all from the world's largest automaker Toyota: Corolla (256,400), Hilux (214,700), RAV4 (211,00) and Camry (166,200).

This means that Elon Musk's forecast that the Tesla Model Y will take over the top of the sales charts this year has already partially come true. This was also made possible by price cuts that Tesla has implemented in many markets this year. For the time being, the focus for Musk is no longer on achieving the highest possible margin, but on conquering further market shares through attractive price offers.
