Why the new HV Battery Seal Upgrade is important
Tesla is retrofitting all Model S and Model X vehicles built between January 2021 and September 22, 2022, with an optimized seal for the high-voltage battery at no cost. The update provides better protection for the battery against water ingress during heavy rain or flooding.
Which vehicles are affected?
-
Series: Model S & Model X
-
Production period: 01/2021 – 22.09.2022
-
Regions: USA & Europe (Canada currently excluded)
What is being done to your Tesla?
| Old Component | New Component | Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| 5 Flood Port Plungers with simple drainage | 5 revised plungers with improved water barrier | Higher protection against water during flooding |
Tesla replaces all five plungers in the battery housing. This takes about 45 minutes and is 100% free of charge , even if your high-voltage warranty has already expired (goodwill policy).
This is how the service works
-
App notification: Tesla informs you as soon as parts are available at your service center.
-

-
On-site installation: Service technicians replace the plungers – no mobility restriction, as the downtime is short.
Tips for flood situations
-
Park the vehicle higher in time – avoid parking in underground garages.
-
Avoid driving through standing water; even 30 cm of water can endanger the electronics.
-
If your Tesla does submerge deeper, contact service, even if no error is displayed.
Our conclusion
