Tesla Grünheide: Battery production continues to be delayed. Series production no earlier than mid-2024?

As reported recently, there are some delays in ramping up battery production in Grünheide. As with the construction of the Gigafactory, Tesla is struggling with delays from the authorities, but also with protests from some residents. In addition, there is a grant recently announced by and for the USA, which is why Tesla is prioritizing the ramp-up at the US location.

In addition, there are said to be technical problems and too many rejects in the first test runs. More precisely, Tesla is still working on problems with the dry coating of individual electrodes. Due to the new US funding mentioned above, all much-needed mass-production machinery has gone to Texas to accelerate the battery production build-up there.

Tesla boss Elon Musk still wants to continue building a battery cell plant in Grünheide in the long term, it is said. Tesla had already confirmed this after the focus on the new US subsidies became known. According to the report, however, the so-called dry coating of the electrodes must first function properly. Tesla acquired the know-how for this in 2019 with the takeover of the US startup Maxwell.

Musk has announced that he wants to build the world's largest battery factory in Brandenburg. It is currently unclear whether this goal will continue to exist. The first batteries from Grünheide could probably come from Grünheide in mid-2024 at the earliest.
