Tesla is now also introducing variable charging prices in Europe! Prices between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. significantly cheaper!

It was not until mid-September, more precisely on September 19, 2022, that Tesla increased the prices for superchargers throughout Europe to 0.71 euros per kWh in Germany. Today there was another update on the Supercharger prices. As already known from the USA, Tesla is now also introducing the model of variable charging prices at certain times of the day in Europe. The time-dependent charging prices are divided into a total of 3 variable time zones. It can be seen that charging with the Tesla Supercharger is between 17 and 20 cents cheaper between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. than in the main time of the day between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., depending on the location. This is a major difference that will add up to a few euros on the final charge bill. Unfortunately, the new adjustment makes charging a little more expensive during the day. Tesla has increased the price here by 3 cents to 0.74 euros per kWh.

When looking through the supercharger prices in our area, however, we noticed that the supercharger in Soltau and Wismar, for example, does not have a variable time window with cheaper charging prices from 10 p.m. However, the price was also increased here to EUR 0.74 per kWh. Whether this is still a bug in the system or on purpose, we cannot say at the moment. But we will observe this in the next few days.

With this step, Tesla probably wants to encourage unnecessary charging processes to be postponed to between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. For example, grid peaks can be reduced during the day in order to further relieve the power grid. In addition, Tesla can use it to control the utilization of the superchargers in order to reduce waiting times at peak times.
