Tesla has recently released a major update for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software. With the version 12.5 comes with improvements designed to enhance both the driving experience and safety. Here you can find out what has changed with the update 2024.44 changes and what Tesla-fans can expect.
What's new in FSD version 12.5?
The new version FSD 12.5.4.2 replaces the previous version FSD 12.3.6which has been installed since July 2024 on most Tesla-vehicles since July 2024. The most important new features include:
- Real-time driver monitoring: Instead of the steering wheel tag, the cab camera monitors the driver's behavior. This function now also works with sunglasses.
- A smoother driving experience: Improved lane change decisions and generally smoother control.
- Safety improvements: Tesla has further optimized the software to ensure greater reliability and safety.
FSD in different regions: Shadow Mode remains active
Vehicles in regions where FSD is not fully available, such as in Europe or China, will also benefit from the update. Here, FSD runs in the so-called shadow mode. This compares the behavior of the vehicle with that of the driver. This data helps Tesla, further train the AI.
FSD updates for Cybertruck and future versions
- Cybertruck: Vehicles of the new model are currently receiving a customized version FSD 12.5.5.3. Tesla collects specific data from the Cybertruck fleet before the software is released to everyone.
- Outlook for FSD 13: The next major release, FSD 13is eagerly awaited. At the "We, Robot" event in October Tesla first impressions of this version. FSD 13 is expected to be officially launched in 2025.
Should you use the update?
The FSD update 2024.44 is automatically delivered to vehicles with an FSD subscription. If you are currently using FSD 12.3.6, the upgrade is definitely worthwhile as it brings numerous improvements. The latest version will be activated directly for new subscribers.
