Tesla presents FSD Unsupervised – Over 50,000 autonomous miles driven

Tesla has achieved another milestone: With a specially adapted version of FSD Unsupervised, vehicles autonomously navigate from the production line to the delivery area – covering more than 50,000 driverless miles. These fascinating autonomous drives, which mainly take place at the Giga Texas and Fremont locations, impressively demonstrate Tesla's advancements in artificial intelligence and autonomous driving.

Autonomous Navigation to the Delivery Area

Tesla vehicles cover a route of about 1.4 miles, navigating on public roads amidst pedestrians, other cars, trucks, and even construction machinery. A recently released video documents how the Teslas successfully master this complex environment – a clear proof that Tesla is not only working on the technology but also achieving reliable results in practical application. This autonomous behavior is particularly important as it serves as a test run for the imminent launch of the Robotaxi network, which is expected to start in June.

Increased Confidence in Autonomous Technology

Tesla has already reinforced trust in the new Unsupervised FSD build through posts on X (formerly Twitter) and public statements, including from Elon Musk. Musk emphasized that this is the very first, fully AI-based solution for autonomous driving – a breakthrough that aims to pave the way for a global FSD rollout. Tesla's continuous posts and updates about autonomy and the Robotaxi service underline the company's confidence that they will soon be able to deploy FSD Unsupervised on a large scale.

Cybertruck in Autonomous Mode

Notably, the integration of FSD Unsupervised into the Cybertruck is also remarkable. Originally, the Cybertruck was the only Tesla that was not supposed to benefit from this autonomous system. This has now changed: The Cybertruck now independently navigates through the Cybertunnel and drives directly from the factory to the loading areas. This brings the Cybertruck closer to functional parity with the other AI4 vehicles from Tesla, as "Start FSD from Park" and "Actually Smart Summon" are also to be implemented here – a step that is likely to further increase the acceptance and practical utility of the autonomous functions.

Outlook – FSD Update in Sight?

It has been a while since an FSD update was rolled out to a new hardware variant. Given the recent advancements in Unsupervised FSD and the increased focus on deploying FSD outside North America, much suggests that a comprehensive update is imminent – not only for the Cybertruck but for the entire Tesla portfolio. Tesla's new Early Access Program allows selected users to receive the latest updates first. This promises exciting innovations and will certainly further fuel discussions around autonomous vehicles.
