Good news for Tesla fans in North America: Tesla has once again enabled the transfer of Full Self-Driving (FSD) to new vehicles. Those who were hesitant to buy a new model because the expensive FSD was not transferable now have the chance again – without a time limit. What does FSD transfer mean – and why is it important?

The FSD option (Full Self-Driving) is one of the most expensive software features of Tesla – and has so far generally been tied to a specific vehicle. Those who bought a new car had to purchase FSD again. The possibility to transfer FSD once to a new Tesla vehicle has long been demanded by many customers – now it is available again.

For which vehicles does the FSD transfer apply?

The current regulation applies to all new Tesla vehicles, including:

Model S
Model 3
Model X
Model Y
Cybertruck

Exceptions:

Cybertruck Foundation Series
Model Y Launch Series

These two special editions already include FSD – therefore, a transfer is not possible.

How does the transfer work?

To carry out the FSD transfer, you must:

Order a new vehicle (if orders are possible in your country)
Contact your Delivery Coordinator through the Tesla-App
Confirm your authorization and initiate the transfer
Note: FSD will be removed from the old vehicle after transfer, whether you sell, trade, or keep it
