Tesla with a decline in sales in China - but not without reason

Tesla the year has 2025 began with a decline in sales in China. In January, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), 63,238 vehicles were sold in Januarywhich corresponds to decrease of 11.5% compared to the previous year. and 32.6 % less than in December 2024 corresponds to.

Despite the decline, there are two main factorsthat explain this development:

1️⃣ The Chinese New Year (January 28 - February 4, 2025) led to a slower production & lower demand.
2️⃣ The switch to the new Model Y meant temporary production stops at Tesla Giga Shanghai.

Model Y-Refresh causes delays in production

🚗 Consequences for deliveries:

  • Fewer available Model Y vehicles available in January
  • High demand for the new model, but still limited availability
  • Increase in production expected from March

📉 Lunar New Year effect:

  • China's biggest festival puts the brakes on traditionally slows down the car market.
  • Fewer purchases & production pauses lead to declining January sales.
  • Tesla Shanghai was also affected.

Extended 0% financing promotion
Cheaper Supercharger prices for a limited time

Tesla goes with it actively counteracts the decline in salesto increase sales after the New Year slump to boost sales again.

When will the Tesla-sales recover?

📅 Expectations for the coming months:

  • February 2025 expected to remain weakeras the production is still under reconstruction under reconstruction.
  • From March/April the situation should normalize as soon as the Model Y-output increases.
  • Tesla is likely to be due in particular to increasing exports from March onwards.

Tesla still has a strong position in China strong market positionand as soon as production of the new Model Y is fully ramped upsales could pick up again significantly.
