Do you want to make your Model 3 or Model Y even more secure? With the Spring Update 2025.14, Tesla unlocks the long-awaited B-Pillar recording for Sentry Mode and Dashcam – but only for vehicles with Hardware 4 (HW4). We show you what the upgrade brings, which models benefit – and why even the Cybertruck is still left out.
What is the B-Pillar recording?
The two cameras in the door pillar between the front and rear doors now film along, closing a previous blind spot. Result:
-
360-degree monitoring in six perspectives
-
Better capture of license plates in parking bumps
-
Additional evidence in case of vandalism or parking damage
Who gets the feature?
HW4 vehicles (Ryzen infotainment)
-
Model S & X (from mid-2023)
-
Model 3 & Model Y Juniper/Highland (from 2023)
These models receive:
-
Recording of the B-Pillar cameras for Sentry Mode and Dashcam
-
New Dashcam Viewer with grid view, 15-second jump, and event skip
HW3 vehicles (including Ryzen)
-
Receive only the improved Dashcam Viewer – without B-Pillar clips.
Cybertruck
Despite HW4 & Ryzen still without new Sentry feature. The reason is likely the different Sentry architecture; Tesla is reportedly working on a retrofit.
Why is HW4 a requirement?
The two additional video streams require higher computing and data rates. HW3 is reaching its limits. Tesla continues to optimize, but currently only HW4 gets the full functionality.
Further Innovations in the Update
-
Adaptive High Beam now for all Matrix headlights in North America
-
Alternative Trip Plans and “Avoid Highways” available worldwide
-
Trips Widget with tenth-kWh precision and kWh display for the current trip
-
Transparent overlays on Intel MCU vehicles for a more modern UI
Outlook
Tesla has often optimized functions retroactively for older hardware. Quite possible that in the future at least Ryzen HW3 models will receive B-Pillar Clips. For Cybertruck fans, Tesla is likely to adapt the feature soon – after all, the stainless steel beast is one of the most watched electric cars ever.
Recommendation
Check in Software → Additional Vehicle Info if your Tesla has HW4. If so, activate the update and format your USB stick for dashcam recordings. This way, you can use the new 360-Degree Shield immediately – and your Tesla remains well protected.
