Tesla App 4.48.0: New features and a bug with the phone key

With the latest update Tesla App 4.48.0, Tesla brings several practical improvements – but there is also a bug with the Phone Key that can cause trouble. We summarize the most important changes and tips for you.

Phone Key Bug: Caution with the Update

A previously undocumented error causes already set up Phone Keys to be removed after the update.

  • To reactivate the key, you need to set it up again via the “Set Up” button in the app.

  • However, a Key Card is absolutely required for this.

  • If you don't have a Key Card with you, you can still drive your car: The vehicle can be manually unlocked via the app, then you must tap “Start” in the controls.

Note: To avoid problems, you should wait with the update until Tesla has fixed the bug.

B-Pillar Cameras in Dashcam Viewer

A big plus: Vehicles with Hardware 4 (HW4) can now also access the B-Pillar cameras in the mobile Dashcam Viewer.

  • Supported are Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y.

  • The B-Pillar cameras complement the previous dashcam perspectives with important angles on the vehicle sides.

  • Initially introduced with software update 2025.14, the feature was previously only usable in the vehicle itself. Now it works directly in the app – soon also with the Cybertruck.

Tesla Search Messages (in Preparation)

Also new in the app code: Tesla is preparing the ability to search messages in the app. This includes notifications about vehicle deliveries or important service information.

The function is not yet activated, but it should follow with one of the next updates.

Improvements in Roadside Assistance

The Roadside Assistance area has also been expanded:

  • Users can now choose from more location options (e.g. Supercharger, parking lot, or restricted area).

  • New input fields make it easier to specify original or retrofit stripes – also with the option “I don't know”.

  • Additionally, the process for booking a mobile tire service has been adjusted.

Conclusion

The update 4.48.0 brings practical enhancements like access to the B-Pillar cameras and improvements in roadside assistance. At the same time, the Phone Key Bug causes uncertainty – those who want to be on the safe side should wait with the installation.
