Project Highland: Model 3 Facelift in 2023?

The popular mid-size sedan Tesla Model 3 was introduced back in 2017. Since its introduction, the Tesla Model 3 has been built almost unchanged in a timeless design and is sold in many countries. In the meantime there was also a smaller facelift for the Tesla Model 3. For example, the headlights were changed, the chrome strips were replaced with black strips and the rims were modified. The Tesla Model 3 received the biggest change in the interior. Here the shape of the center console got a major update and the black piano lacquer disappeared from the Tesla interior. According to a report, the Tesla Model 3 will receive a more comprehensive facelift for the first time. According to the Reuter news agency, the electric car manufacturer wants to reduce production costs and give the car a breath of fresh air.

You can find a great comparison between the "old" Tesla Model 3 and the current Model 3 on our YouTube channel.

The news agency cites four people familiar with the project. A key focus of the redesign, codenamed "Highland", is to reduce the number of components and complexity in the interior. At the same time, there should be a focus on the features that Tesla buyers appreciate, including the display. The revision should also include changes to the exterior and the drive power. Tesla's Chinese Gigafactory Shanghai will produce the redesigned Model 3 from the third quarter of 2023, according to insiders. It will then also start up at the main plant in Fremont, California.

So the revamped Tesla Model 3 could build on the Tesla Model S update that was freshened up last year for years to come. Here, too, the body itself remained identical. However, the bumpers, lights, rims and especially the interior received major changes that make the Tesla Model S look much younger.

There is no official statement on the update from Tesla. However, the current sales figures in China could be a reason for a quick update. Recently, the sales figures here have plummeted. As a first measure, prices in China have already been significantly reduced. Chinese manufacturers in particular are currently flooding their own market with new, also very innovative electric cars.
