It is clear from the outset that Tesla is taking a different approach than previously known from other car manufacturers. Tesla is also taking a different approach to marketing campaigns, for example by not advertising on television. At the beginning, Tesla relied heavily on its own referral program for recommendations of its electric cars. Thus, generous bonuses were distributed for both sides. As the Tesla brand grew, however, the rewards were increasingly reduced. Most recently, referrers and recruited persons in Europe each received 1500 free Supercharger kilometers as a gift. However, this referral program was also cancelled indefinitely in September 2021.
Already last week, a hint was found in the German Tesla app that there could soon be such a referral program again. With the price reduction implemented in China this Monday, Tesla is additionally introducing its newly built referral program in China. First Tesla owners are posting this new program with snippets from the Tesla app on Twitter. The new referral program can be found there under the app menu item "Loot Box". In China, you no longer just collect Supercharger kilometers, but Tesla credits, which can also be used for free charging, but not only. In addition, a large number of items from the Tesla Shop are available in exchange for different numbers of credits.
With the new program, both sides get 3500 credits each. It doesn't matter which Tesla model is brokered. In China, 3500 credits should be enough for about 750 Supercharger kilometers, half as much as before the suspension last September. Alternatively, however, smaller items such as T-shirts or umbrellas from the Tesla Shop are also available in China. Another new feature is the option to order another Tesla vehicle as a Tesla owner, in which case the credits will be credited to both sides.
