New Tesla subscription: Extended Service Agreement offers up to 4 years of additional protection

What is the new Extended Service Agreement?

Tesla is now offering a monthly cancellable Extended Service Agreement (ESA) in the USA. This allows the factory warranty to be extended by up to four years or up to 160,000 km (100,000 mi) – twice as long as the previous one-time payment package.

How the subscription model works

Duration & Coverage

  • 4 years / 100,000 mi after the expiration of the basic warranty (4 years / 50,000 mi).

  • Monthly installments instead of a high one-time payment.

  • 100 US-$ deductible per service visit eligible for repair.

Costs per model (H3)

Model Monthly Fee
Model 3 50 US-$
Model Y 60 US-$
Model S 125 US-$
Model X 150 US-$

(Cybertruck will follow "soon" according to Tesla.)

Covered Components

Applies to almost all parts manufactured by Tesla – except high-voltage battery, drive unit, glass, paint, bodywork, charging equipment, and classic wear parts.

Requirements & Conclusion

  • Vehicle must still be within the 4-year/50,000-mile factory warranty.

  • No leasing and no used purchase so far (expansion to CPOs planned).

  • Booking directly in the Tesla app under Upgrades → Service Plans. Payments start only after the warranty ends.

Why is this interesting for us in Germany?

Although the Extended Service Agreement is initially only available in the USA, it provides a clear indication of Tesla's strategy to make service offerings more flexible. Tesla confirms plans to introduce similar subscriptions "soon" for Canada, Mexico, and other markets. For European customers, monthly warranty extensions could also come into view – particularly interesting for frequent drivers and used car buyers.

Further Service Subscriptions from Tesla

  • Windshield Protection Plan – monthly protection against stone chips.

  • Wheel & Tire Protection Plan – coverage for rim and tire damage.

  • Both programs currently only in the USA, international introduction planned.

Conclusion & Outlook

The new Extended Service Agreement shows Tesla's shift from the classic warranty package to flexible subscription solutions. German customers do not yet benefit directly from this, but they get a taste of which service models could be introduced in this country. We will keep you updated as soon as Tesla announces the ESA or comparable offers for Europe.
