Musk confirms: Grok AI is coming to Teslas next week

Elon Musk announced via X that the Grok AI assistant will be available in Tesla vehicles "by next week." This ends an almost two-year wait since Tesla first announced the integration of the xAI bot into its cars.

Employee rollout before customer delivery

Historically, Musk terminology on X usually means an employee release. Tesla will initially distribute the update internally to conduct final tests. Subsequently, a staggered release for the broad fleet will follow.

Software base already laid

The Grok user interface has been lying dormant in the system since update 2025.20.
The Tesla app can already log in to Grok – all necessary server hooks are present.
A simple server switch is enough to activate Grok across the board.

The activation will likely occur with the next major software release, probably 2025.24 or 2025.26, to bundle necessary bug fixes and final adjustments.

Requirements and supported models

Grok will initially run on AMD Ryzen-based infotainment systems. This includes:

Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y
Cybertruck

Intel systems will initially be left out, but can be retrofitted later via software update, provided the performance is adequate.

User experience and features

Conversation by clicking the voice button, without rigid command syntax.
Continuous dialogue, follow-up questions are possible without reactivating each time.
Colorful waves visualize Grok's responses on the cockpit display.
It is expected that Grok will be able to control numerous vehicle functions in the future, even if this is not activated at launch.
