Breakthrough: 4680 battery cells for up to 1000 Model Y per week!

Tesla has achieved a breakthrough in the mass production of its 4680 battery cells. According to the report, so many of them could be produced within a week at last count that it would take more than 1,000 Model Y enough. It is clear that the 4680 cells have a high savings potential. Experts believe that this technology could be used to produce high-performance electric cars with a purchase price of less than 25,000 US dollars. Just in time for the end of 2022, there is now good news about the production of 4680 cells. As Tesla announced on Twitter, a breakthrough in battery cell production has been celebrated, with a total of 868,000 4680 cells produced in the past seven days. This means that over 1,000 Model Y be equipped.

The cells are initially to be produced at Model Y which will be manufactured at the Gigafactory Texas. Accordingly, production of the battery cells is also to start in Texas in order to shorten transport distances. The largest possible production of the largely self-manufactured 4680 battery cells would be a major step for Tesla to reduce its dependence on suppliers. During the course of the year, supply bottlenecks already occurred for a short time. In addition, the whole thing also represents a cost factor, of course. According to Tesla, savings of $5,500 per vehicle could be realized by using its own battery cells, also due to advantages in production.
