Tesla increases prices for Model S & X - free Supercharging returns

Significant price adjustments for Tesla's premium models

Tesla has raised the prices for the Model S and Model X in Germany and other markets drastically increased. The Model S now costs 17,000 euros morewhile the Model X costs up to 15 percent more expensive more expensive. At the same time Tesla a popular feature back: free supercharging for first-time owners.

Price increases for Model S & Model X worldwide

On Friday morning, the German Tesla-website still showed the old price for the Model Sbut the configurator revealed the new, significantly higher costs:

  • Model S Long Range: 109.900 € (+18 %)
  • Model S Plaid: 119.900 € (+11 %)
  • Model X Long Range: 114.900 € (+15 %)
  • Model X Plaid: 124.990 € (+11 %)

In addition, there are still 980 euros destination and authority fees will be charged.

Also in other European countries there were similar increases. In North America on the other hand, only the prices for the Model X - by 5,000 US dollars in the USA and the equivalent amount in Canada.

Model S & Model X no longer available in some countries

Particularly striking: Model S and Model X can no longer be reconfigured in Poland. On the Tesla-website, the links only lead to stock vehicles - which are no longer available there.

This could indicate that Tesla further restricting the availability of its premium vehicles in Europe. Already since 2021 no right-hand drive versions are no longer produced, which is why these models no longer available in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand. are no longer sold. Now it seems Tesla in certain European left-hand drive markets to withdraw completely from sales.

Why are prices rising?

Official reasons for the price increases Tesla but there are several possible explanations:

  1. Low demand: Tesla sold worldwide fewer Model S and Model X than expected. 2024 only 85,000 units of these models (including the Cybertruck) were sold, although production capacity at 100,000 units per year per year.
  2. Exclusivity strategy: Higher prices could make the Model S and Model X the luxury products more strongly from the high-volume models Model 3 and Model Y stand out.
  3. Margin increase: Tesla could be linked to the higher margin compensate for falling sales figures.

Tesla brings back free supercharging

While buyers will have to dig deeper into their pockets, there is also a good news: Tesla reintroduces unlimited, free Supercharging for first-time Model S and Model X owners.

What does this mean?

  • Unlimited charging at Superchargers for the entire period of ownership.
  • Only valid for first owners - Resale does not transfer the right.

The feature was once a strong selling point for Tesla. Until 2016 it was for all modelslater it was abolished several times and in some cases brought back for a limited time.

Now Tesla apparently relying on this incentive again - possibly in order to to boost the declining sales figures of the premium models.

Conclusion: more exclusive, but also more expensive

With these measures Tesla obviously trying to attractiveness of the Model S and Model X while prices are rising at the same time. The free charging option could attract some buyers, but the significant price increases could also mean that potential customers to Model 3 or Model Y switch.
