Tesla is expanding its entertainment offerings in China and will soon integrate the popular video app Vohico directly into the vehicle. This is revealed by analyses of the Tesla firmware by the well-known hacker "Greentheonly." The new function is specifically aimed at the highly competitive Chinese market, which, along with the USA, is one of the most important sales regions for Tesla.
What is Vohico?
Vohico is one of the most used video apps in China and is part of ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok. The app combines several video services in a user-friendly touch interface, specially optimized for use in the car.
With the integration, Tesla drivers in China will have direct access to:
-
Douyin – the Chinese version of TikTok for short videos
-
Xigua Video – also known as "Watermelon," a platform for medium to long videos
This provides Tesla with an entertainment package that perfectly adapts to the media usage of Chinese customers and aims to compete with locally promoted, often cheaper vehicles.
Support for Intel and AMD vehicles
Particularly pleasing: The Vohico integration is available not only for newer MCU3 models with AMD chips but also for older MCU2 models with Intel processors.
In recent months, Tesla has introduced many new features primarily for AMD-based vehicles – including Grok, the new Dashcam Viewer, High-Fidelity Park Assist, and new games. The fact that Vohico now also appears on Intel vehicles shows that Tesla continues to strive to provide older models with important updates.
Why this step is important
The Chinese car market is fiercely competitive. Many domestic manufacturers offer vehicles with generous government subsidies and extensive infotainment systems. With the integration of Vohico, Tesla positions itself as an attractive provider for a young, digitally connected target group that values seamless entertainment and social media connectivity.
