Xiaomi is no longer just a smartphone manufacturer - the company is now also attacking the Tesla and Porsche in the performance electric car segment. The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has not only broken the Nürburgring record of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT but also surpassed the Tesla Model S Plaid in several categories - for price and acceleration.
SU7 Ultra vs. Tesla Model S Plaid: Who is faster?
The biggest surprise: The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.89 seconds - making it faster than the Tesla Model S Plaid with 2.1 seconds. This is made possible by three electric motors with a total of 1,548 hp.
Further performance data:
Top speed: 350 km/h (Tesla Model S Plaid: 322 km/h)
Battery: 94 kWh with ultra-fast charging to 80% in 11 minutes
Range: 630 km (CLTC) vs. 672 km (Tesla Model S Plaid, CLTC)
Significantly cheaper than Tesla
While the Tesla Model S Plaid costs around 38,500 euros more in Chinathe Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has now been launched at a surprisingly lower price than expected.
Price: 72,930 USD (approx. 70,277 €) – 35% cheaper than originally announced for pre-order.
This means: More performance for significantly less money - a declaration of war on Tesla and other premium electric cars.
Xiaomi takes the market by storm
Xiaomi can currently not produce enough SU7 Ultrawhich waiting list is already 7 months. CEO Lei Jun explained that the aim is to achieve a Porsche-like performance, Tesla-Technology and Mercedes luxury - at a significantly lower price.
Already 15 minutes after the performance were 6,900 orders were placedthe target of 10,000 units sold should be reached quickly.
Conclusion: If Xiaomi Tesla facing a real challenge?
With impressive performance data and a massively lower price the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra could become a real Tesla-competitor. In the long term, however, the decisive factor will be how well Xiaomi progresses with production and market expansion outside China.
