In 2023, after a long time, a new vehicle is once again at the top of the world's best-selling cars, marking a turning point in the automotive industry. With around 1.23 million units sold, the Tesla Model Y took the top spot, displacing the previous leader, the Toyota RAV4, which fell to second place with 1.07 million vehicles. The Toyota Corolla secured third place with 1.01 million units sold. It is also noteworthy that not only has the first place been replaced for a long time, but that it is also an electric vehicle. This shows the increasing acceptance of electric cars on the global market. Tesla's success with the electric car, which will not be launched on the market until 2021 Model Y has been described as unprecedented and remarkable, especially when compared to long-standing bestsellers such as the RAV4 and Corolla.

Particularly notable is the global dominance of the Model Ywhich not only tops the sales charts worldwide, but also in key markets such as Europe and China. In China, the largest market for electric cars, the Model Y recorded an impressive 45 percent increase in sales compared to the previous year, with a total of 456,000 vehicles delivered. In Europe, too, the Model Y also significantly outperformed the previous leader, the Dacia Sandero, with over 255,000 units sold. In the USA, on the other hand, the Ford F-Series remained the top seller with almost three times as many sales as the Model Y the bestseller.

I immediately checked my 2023 production table when I read that and it shows 558,374 production for Fremont. So, no adjustment was needed.

The production figures underline Tesla's international presence: around half of the company's Model Y was manufactured at the Gigafactory in Shanghai. Other production sites such as the factory in Fremont, the Gigafactory in Berlin and Giga Texas also contributed significantly to the total figure.
