Tesla Model Y with rear-wheel drive from Grünheide now with BYD and CATL battery!

Since the summer, production of the Tesla Model Y with rear-wheel drive has been running at full speed at the German Gigafactory in Grünheide. For a few days now, however, there have been increasing reports that the Model Y with rear-wheel drive will come from the Grünheide Gigafactory with both the CATL battery and the BYD battery.

The Tesla Model Y with the BYD battery and the innovative Structural Battery Pack has quickly established itself as a favorite. The excellent charging curve enables the vehicle to score with an impressively high charging capacity despite the smaller battery size. This makes the Model Y with BYD battery an unbeatable companion for long-distance journeys at an extremely attractive price.

The exact reasons for the dual-track production are not known. It is speculated that the demand for the smallest version of the Model Y could be too great to be met by the only line for it at the German Gigafactory. How do the batteries differ?

Many people are probably asking themselves, do I have any influence on which battery is used in my Model Y and how can I tell which battery is installed? First of all, you have no direct influence on the choice of battery manufacturer. If you decide on a vehicle from the stock, it may be helpful to ask the Sales Advisor. We cannot say at the moment whether this information will be provided. The easiest way to find out which battery is installed in your Model Y is to check the chassis number.

The chassis number can be found at the bottom of the windshield on the driver's side or in the vehicle registration document. The first three letters of the chassis number provide information about the place of manufacture:

LRW = Made in China (MIC)

XP7 = Made in Germany (MIG)

To determine which battery is installed, the 7th digit of the chassis number is decisive. For vehicles with rear-wheel drive from Germany:

E in this position means BYD battery

F in this position means CATL battery

Tip: If you need jack pads for your Tesla Model Y to lift it safely and protect the battery from damage in the long term, take a look at our 2befair jack pads (Jack Pads) at. These are available in various designs, e.g. also for the Model Y with BYD battery, as this has special jacking points.
