Tesla delivers first semi trucks to Pepsi. Up to 1 megawatt charging power, 3 Plaid motors and 500 miles (800km) range.

As announced a few weeks ago, the time had come yesterday, December 1, 2022. At the Tesla Delivery Event, Tesla delivers its first electrically powered truck Tesla Semi. The first models of the Tesla Semi Truck go to the beverage company Pepsi.

Company boss Elon Musk personally presented the vehicle in Nevada and described the truck as a "beast": "I mean, it looks like it came from the future," he is quoted as saying . At the event, Elon Musk also emphasized the high efficiency of the Semi and its incredible acceleration. Compared to a diesel truck, the performance is "insane," he said. In a recorded video, Tesla showed, among other things, how this is to be understood: A semi easily passes a conventional truck on an uphill stretch. He should also have been fully loaded. The drive includes three independent motors, which are known from the Tesla Model S and Model X Plaid. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in around 20 seconds. The consumption is less than 2 kWh per mile (1.61 km) with a full load. Tesla will not reveal any further or detailed information at the event. The empty weight, the price and the battery capacity, among other things, remain unknown. It is only announced that the battery can be recharged with up to 1 megawatt of power. This should be able to happen with the new so-called V4 Mega Chargers.

The semi truck that has now been delivered has a range of around 800 km. It was only at the weekend that Elon Musk made it public that such a distance had been covered under real conditions for the first time with a full load. A second version of the Tesla semi truck with a shorter range of 480 km will follow later. Pre-orders have been available in the US since May with a $20,000 deposit. The first orders, for example from Walmart and FedEx as well as other interested parties, are said to have already been received. Musk recently announced that Tesla wants to produce around 50,000 trucks for North America alone by 2024. When and if the first Tesla semi will come to Europe is currently unknown.
