Tesla Gigafactory Texas follows suit and reaches target of 5000 Model Y per week!

After the new Gigafactory Grünheide already reached in March the production target of 5,000 vehicles of the Tesla Model Y in one week, the Gigafactory Texas, which opened almost at the same time, has now also reached this target. Tesla announced this solemnly via Twitter. The almost simultaneous launch of the two large factories, the Gigafactory Berlin and the Gigafactory Texas, creates a friendly competition between the two factories. When Tesla puts a new vehicle into mass production at a new factory, the goal is usually 5,000 units per week.In March, the Gigafactory Berlin reached that goal with 5,000 produced Model Y per week. The Texas Gigafactory lagged somewhat behind, at 4,000 at the beginning of April. Model Y per week.

The Gigafactory Texas team had a good excuse for this, however, because the Gigafactory Texas faces different challenges than the Gigafactory Berlin. The main difference is that some of the vehicles produced at Gigafactory Texas are equipped with Tesla's newly developed 4680 battery cells, which enable the new "Structural Battery Pack" chassis design. That's a new way of producing vehicles, and it introduces some complexity. You are right about gross margins. The cost per vehicle is definitely coming down. That's another lever for demand. Congratulations, Tesla! Even though we now know that Tesla is also producing 5,000 Model Y per week, it is not clear how many will be produced with 2170 cells and how many with the new 4680 cells and structural battery pack.
