Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai production stop in July. Expansion of the Model Y production line.

There is news about the Gigafactory Shanghai again. It was announced some time ago that Tesla would continue to expand production there and focus on the Tesla Model Y. Now Tesla seems to be setting the course for increasing production. According to the latest reports from Shanghai, Tesla will close its Gigafactory (at least part of it) in early July to make room for the upgrade of the Model Y production line.

With the expansion of this production line, Gigafactory Shanghai will reportedly increase to about 2,000 vehicles per day. Thus, the weekly production of the Tesla Model Y should increase to about 14,000 units per week due to the improvement at the Gigafactory Shanghai. With the production of the Model 3, Tesla reaches a total of around 22,000 units per month.

Interestingly, an image of a Twitter post from Tesla China appeared to indicate that the Giga Shanghai shutdown will only last a few days, from July 1-4, 2022. However, Reuters, citing internal Evidence from Tesla found that the shutdown will instead last around two weeks.

Dear partners,

In order to cooperate with the production upgrade of the super factory, the entire factory (including the workshop and office area) needs to be powered off from July 1st to July 4th. The guidelines for attendance during a power outage are as follows:

- Participating in production improvement and transformation: Arrange attendance according to the department

- Front-line employees: rest according to the production plan

– Office employees on daily shifts: Arrange annual leave/sabbatical leave, work from home, or work at an off-site office location, such as RDC/TC, according to actual work needs.

- Follow-up line supervisor/engineer: In principle, work and rest with the front-line employees of the shift they follow. If necessary, they can work from home, or work at an off-site office, such as RDC/TC.

All attendance, annual leave/schedule, home office or off-site office shall be arranged and approved by the heads of each department according to business needs.
