Tesla Giga Shanghai sales in April 2025: 58,459 vehicles delivered

How is the Tesla Giga Shanghai sales developing this year? In April 2025, a total of 58,459 Model 3 and Model Y left the assembly lines of the Chinese Gigafactory. Although this is less than the strong March, it shows that Tesla's largest production and export hub continues to operate at a high level – an important metric for us in Europe to assess upcoming delivery quotas.

Numbers & Facts

  • Total sales April 2025: 58,459 units

  • Change from previous year: ‑6 %

  • Change from previous month: ‑25.8 %

  • January–April cumulative: 231,213 vehicles (‑18.3 % YoY)

The difference from the record-breaking March is explained by the start of deliveries of the revised Model Y, which triggered a short-term production peak in the spring.

Competition in the Chinese Market

Intense Price Pressure

Local manufacturers are continuously bringing new BEV models to the streets and undercutting each other with promotions. Tesla counters with efficiency improvements in manufacturing and is already planning a more cost-effective Model Y variant from 2026 to stabilize the Tesla Giga Shanghai sales in the long term.

Export Hub for Europe

Giga Shanghai continues to supply numerous EU markets. Stable production is relevant for German customers because it keeps delivery times for Model 3 and Model Y predictable – even though our continent has been partially self-sufficient since the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg.

Importance for German and European Customers

  • Informative, no direct action recommendation: The April numbers mainly affect the Asian market.

  • Supply chain buffer: A high production level in China can cushion shortages in Europe.

  • Monitor price development: Stronger competition in China can create global price pressure and, in the medium term, also favor European price actions.

Outlook

According to internal plans, Tesla intends to launch a three-row Model Y variant with a longer wheelbase in Shanghai by 2025 and to bring the Low-Cost Model Y into series production by 2026. Both steps could significantly increase the Tesla Giga Shanghai sales and thereby strengthen Tesla's global market position. For us, this means exciting times ahead, in which new variants could potentially come to Germany faster and at more attractive prices.
