Tesla Giga 5 in Austin/ Texas was officially opened!

A good 2 weeks after the opening of the Giga 4 in Berlin, the new Giga 5 in Texas was officially opened on April 7th, 2022. As already announced, the opening was themed “Cyber Rodeo”. The event started at 4 p.m. local time, and Elon Musk announced himself via Twitter at 9 p.m. local time. As we know Elon Musk, he drove up in a black Tesla Roadster. Appropriately wearing a cowboy hat, sunglasses and a casual “Cyber Rodeo” shirt, he began his speech at the opening. In his speech he talked about the construction of the Giga Texas, because unlike previous factories, everything was packed under one roof here, while previously several buildings with a lot of space were built around it - as in Berlin.

Elon Musk announced that the new 4680 battery cells will now also be built and used in the plant. (For information, the 4680 battery cells have a storage capacity five times higher). As previously announced, the Model Y from Texas will then be built with the new battery structure and the new battery cells.

Elon Musk also showed videos from the current Giga Press in Berlin and Texas. This makes the production of the Tesla body much easier. Parts for the rear and the front can be manufactured in one step. With this time saving, around 500,000 Tesla could leave the Giga Texas in the future.

Elon Musk then also announced the Cybertruck for 2023, which is also to be produced in Texas. Also planned for 2023 are the electric semitrailer tractors, called semi-trucks, and the new Tesla Roadster. Elon Musk also mentioned his humanoid robot, which Tesla would like to develop and build in the future. Tesla should and will grow, because Elon Musk also addressed that. He stressed Tesla will go extreme in the future, bigger than most companies.

The opening was underlined with a mega light show, which, for example, reflects the "haha yes hedgehog" and a large fireworks display afterwards. Unlike in Berlin, apparently no vehicles were delivered directly. However, it is to be expected that the first deliveries from Texas will start soon. So we can be excited to see what will happen in both Berlin and Texas in the next few weeks.
