Elon Musk has revealed new details about the next FSD version v14 on X – and they sound like one of the biggest updates in the history of Tesla's Autopilot software. In addition to a massive 10x parameter upgrade, the update brings numerous new features such as pothole detection, significantly better parking navigation, and even more human-like driving behavior.
10x more AI power
The core of the update is a new FSD model with ten times the number of parameters compared to previous versions.
-
More computing power = better recognition of details and complex traffic situations
-
Improved video data through reduced compression
-
Skips the originally planned 4x version and brings the high-performance model directly
This means: FSD will be more nuanced, more anticipatory, and can react significantly more human-like.
New & improved capabilities
According to Musk, the focus remains clearly on safety, yet numerous comfort and precision features are added:
-
Avoiding potholes (finally back)
-
Significantly better navigation in parking lots
-
Smarter parking search and automatic parking
-
Optimized behavior at pickup and drop-off points
-
Improved lane selection & route planning
-
Better response to special cases like police or construction workers directing traffic
-
Confident handling in crowds (e.g., airport zones)
-
Smoother, more confident driving overall
Pothole detection: Comfort & protection
Tesla was already working on pothole labeling in 2020, but the active avoidance function never really reached customers. Now the feature is being brought back – with potentially great benefits for:
-
Driving comfort
-
Tire protection
-
Vehicle preservation
Planned schedule
-
End of September 2025: internal rollout to Tesla employees & early-access testers
-
October 2025: broader rollout to influencers & selected testers
-
Shortly thereafter: customer release if feedback is positive
Musk also confirmed: FSD v14 will have reduced driver monitoring include – in other words: fewer “Nag” alerts when the driver looks away briefly.
