It was recently reported that Tesla plans to launch its all-electric truck, called the Tesla Semi, earlier than announced a few months ago. In preparation for the launch, Tesla posted new images and videos on its website and specified the dates of the production version.
The Tesla Semi is said to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 20 seconds and is offered with batteries for a range of 300 or 500 miles (approx. 480/800 km). The customer is promised consumption of less than 2 kWh per mile (1.61 km) with a full load. Tesla states that the semi truck can be charged to 70 percent capacity in around 30 minutes, which is a range of 350 miles (approx. 560 km) with the 500-mile battery. The prerequisite for this is that the vehicle is connected to a powerful "Tesla Semi Charger".
According to Tesla, numerous reservations for the Tesla Semi have already been received since the presentation - including from Europe, where the vehicle is also scheduled to hit the streets. Customers also report having reserved a semi. However, no pre-orders are currently being accepted. That could be because the production of the first few months is already sold out.
In addition to a powerful, locally emission-free drive, Tesla promises significantly lower costs with the Semi than with comparable diesel vehicles. The focus is also on the driver: the spacious driver's cab is built around a central seat flanked by two large touchscreen displays. The cockpit, which can be entered standing up, will later also be available in a version with a sleeping area. For security, there are several cameras, among other things, which enable an all-round view of the vehicle. As with its car models, Tesla also relies on advanced driver assistance systems with self-driving functionality.
